Dear Subscribers: After a lot of thought (some might call it dithering), I’ve decided to leave Substack. (More on my reasons later, but suffice to say I’ve never been entirely comfortable here.) However, I intend to continue sharing my writing in another format and with broader subject matter. This is when you get to decide whether you want to continue to read my writing. Your future experience, should you choose to continue, will not be that much different than you’ve had with Substack: when I write something new, you’ll receive an email with a summary and a link which will take you to a formatted webpage. The difference will be that the writing will not be indexed — in other words, it won’t appear in searches, and can’t be used to train AI. Each article will have its own URL, and I may create an online archive of links to past articles so people who subscribe later can catch up if they’re interested. And, of course, you can share the link with anyone else you think might be interested.

I currently have 212 subscribers, and I have a pretty strong “open rate” for Substack, so thank you — that means that a large percentage are engaged. But this change seems like a good moment to ask whether you want to continue hearing from me. I’d like you to OPT IN if you’d like to continue by filling out a very short Google form. If you DON’T wish to continue, do nothing — only those who opt in will be on the mailing list. Don’t worry, I won’t be checking who decided not to opt in, nor will my feelings be hurt if the numbers go down — in fact, I expect they will, and I’m fine with that.

Whether or not you choose to opt in, thank you for all your kind attention over the past however-many-years-it’s-been. I apologize for the hassle of this move, but sometimes changes to the internet require it. Again, click the link below to continue to receive emails, and do nothing if you wish to discontinue. With gratitude, Scott
