I look at Ted Turner’s CNN as the start of US democracy’s downward slide. In order to provide 24/7 news coverage, Turner had to focus on national and international news. Until then, those topics were covered in 30 mins by Cronkite et al. But for most of us, news was local. Now, nobody knows what’s happening in their own towns, but they sure know what’s happening in DC and across the globe.
